Figure 8. Glycine Content Increases with the Number of Neighboring PPII helices and Glycine-Rich PPII Helical Assemblies are Tolerant of Diverse Flanking Sequences
A. The Glycine content increases when a PPII helix is surrounded by more PPII helices. Residue color code: Gly=light green, Pro=black, anionic (Asp, Glu)=red, cationic (Arg, Lys, His)=blue, polar (Thr, Ser, Asn, Gln, Cys-SH)=cyan, aromatic (Phe, Tyr, Trp)=purple, aliphatic (Ala, Met, Val, Leu, Ile, Cys S-S)=gray.
B. Glycine-rich PPII helical assemblies are robust enough to remain folded in the context of distinct flanking sequences, which can be rich in glycine and proline residues in the case of HhAFP, cationic or aromatic residues for BsOBG or AaAPC, respectively. The color code is the same as that used in panel A.
