Figure 6. Salmonella φS16 Long Tail Fiber gp38 Domain (S16LTF)
A. The primary structure of S16LFT gp38 domain PPII helices and flanking segments is shown, which PPII helices labeled. Residues forming the PPII helices are written in capital letters, those forming the connecting segments are written in lowercase.
B. Schematic diagram representing the PPII helices as triangles. Connecting loops above the plane are shown as solid lines; those below the plane are shown as dotted lines. PPII helical N-termini pointing up are outlined in red; N-termini pointing down are outlined in blue. PPII helices with three, four and six neighboring helices are shaded light gray, medium gray and black respectively. PPII helix 1 is preceded by two turns of a β-solenoid (gray), another layer of this β-solenoid is contributed by the segment linking PPII helices 2 and 3 (black) and a final layer is formed by the segment following PPII helix 10 (brown).
C. The S16LFT tertiary structure (PDB 6F45) colored purple to red from the N- to the C- terminus, showing the ten PPII helices end on.
